Hello Fellow Readers,
How are you? How is your Summer going?
I saw this tag on a couple of blogs, so I thought I’d join the fun! Here’s my Mid Year Freak Out Tag:
Best book you’ve read so far in 2021
Dark Shores by Danielle L. Jensen. It is one of the best examples of world building and character development in a Fantasy world. It’s a series that deserved so much more and it broke my heart hearing the publisher will not publish the last book of this series. It’s already difficult to find this book available in the UK and I will do my best to buy the last book directly from the writer.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021
As The Shadow Rises – Katy Rose Pool. This book is how a sequel should be – better and more shocking than the first one. It gave all the answers I was seeking from the first book and posed more questions for the third one. Each character story line and growth is also well-rounded. I can’t recommend this trilogy enough.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
So many titles… If I look at the pile of books waiting to be read in my bookshelf, I will pick Infinity Reaper and Unchosen.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
*Evil laugh* If you followed my blog in the past, you know I have two most-awaited September releases, which I keep talking about in every social (and mostly every tag in this blog): Empire of The Vampire (currently 3 editions coming on my way) and Dark Rise (currently 2 copies on pre-order because… you never know).
Oh well… I can’t decide between Rule of Wolves or A Sky Beyond The Storm… I guess, I will pick Rule of Wolves. I wasn’t already on board with the plot direction for An Ember in The Ashes since the end of book 2. A part of me was hoping that there would be some improvements in book 3, and there was none. I stayed for book 4 and it was bad but, I saw it coming. For Rule of Wolves, I’m sorry, but I’m still mad and it’s beyond me, I didn’t like it, at all.
The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni – I still can’t shake that ending, that was awesome, like Crown-of-Midnight-ending awesome.
Favourite New Author (Debut or New To You)
Andrea Stewart’s The Bone Shard Daughter is another amazing story I read this year and I can’t stop thinking about it. The writing was flawless and I look forward to reading the sequel or anything else from this writer.
Newest Fictional Crush
Finn from These Hollow Vows, of course!
Newest favourite character
Mephi! from The Bone Shard Daughter, he just makes me think of all the times I wished my cat could actually talk.
Book that made you cry
Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon made me ugly cry at the end. It is such a powerful story about love and life and the ending is so heart wrenching.
Book that made you happy
Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers. I put it away for too long and when I finally picked it up it was such a pleasure to read. I didn’t love the second book of the series too much but the third one was definitely a surprise, more of a feel-good story, without any specific plot, and it left me with so many warm feelings.
The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
I think the Fairyloot version of Lore by Alexandra Bracken is one of the most beautiful books I have in my bookshelves, together with the Illumicrate version of In The Ravenous Dark by A.M. Strickland. The stencil edges are stunning and I felt it improved the whole reading experience.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I am literally laughing out loud at this question – all the unread books in my shelf? LOL. Jokes (and anxieties) aside, I have a few series I want to finish this year, such as Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the last two books of Stalking Jack Ripper series.
Favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?
There is only movie adaptation I watched so far (unless you consider Loki tv-show a book adaptation??), which is Shadow and Bone. It was amazing, the cast were perfect and I loved how the two book series from the Grishaverse were combined together.
This was a great tag to do, I thought it was a good post to ease myself back into blogging. I hope you enjoyed it and consider yourself tagged! Can’t wait to read your answers.
