WWW Wednesday – 28 April 2021

Hello Fellow Readers,

I decided to trial this meme on a weekly basis, as many of you do. I thought it would be a great way for me to provide more contents on my blog and also, I wanted to join the fun. I love reading your WWW posts and I wanted to give it a try as well.

How it works:

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, and the purpose is to share what I have been reading recently.

Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently reading:

Knight’s Ransom – Jeff Wheeler

Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. A brutal war of succession has plunged the court of Kingfountain into a power struggle between a charitable king who took the crown unlawfully and his ambitious rival, Devon Argentine. The balance of power between the two men hinges on the fate of a young boy ensnared in this courtly intrigue. A boy befittingly nicknamed Ransom.

When the Argentine family finally rules, Ransom must make his own way in the world. Opportunities open and shut before him as he journeys along the path to knighthood, blind to a shadowy conspiracy of jealousy and revenge. Securing his place will not be easy, nor will winning the affection of Lady Claire de Murrow, a fiery young heiress from an unpredictably mad kingdom.

Ransom interrupts an abduction plot targeting the Queen of Ceredigion and earns a position in service to her son, the firstborn of the new Argentine dynasty. But conflict and treachery threaten the family, and Ransom must also come to understand and hone his burgeoning powers—abilities that involve more than his mastery with a blade and that make him as much a target as his lord.

Recently finished:

A Sky Beyond The Storm – Sabaa Tahir

The long-imprisoned jinn are on the attack, wreaking bloody havoc in villages and cities alike. But for the Nightbringer, vengeance on his human foes is just the beginning.

At his side, Commandant Keris Veturia declares herself Empress, and calls for the heads of any and all who defy her rule. At the top of the list? The Blood Shrike and her remaining family.

Laia of Serra, now allied with the Blood Shrike, struggles to recover from the loss of the two people most important to her. Determined to stop the approaching apocalypse, she throws herself into the destruction of the Nightbringer. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory–or to an unimaginable doom.

Next Read:

The Bright & The Pale – Jessica Rubinkowski

Seventeen-year-old Valeria is one of the only survivors of the freeze, a dark magical hold Knnot Mountain unleashed over her village. Everyone, including her family, is trapped in an unbreakable sheet of ice. Ever since, she’s been on the run from the Czar, who is determined to imprison any who managed to escape. Valeria finds refuge with the Thieves Guild, doing odd jobs with her best friend Alik, the only piece of home she has left.

That is, until he is brutally murdered.

A year later, she discovers Alik is alive and being held against his will. To buy his freedom, she must lead a group of cutthroats and thieves on a perilous expedition to the very mountain that claimed her family. Only something sinister slumbers in the heart of Knnot.

And it has waited years for release.

As you can see my next read is still The Bright & The Pale, haha. Every time I declare I am going to read something on this post, I end up changing my mind and picking up something else. I am trying to follow my mood. Sunday I finished A Sky Beyond The Storm, I am not sure I will ever write a full review because it would be exhausting and rekindle my rage. I am sorry to say it was another massive disappointment, the ending in particular. It just makes me want to avoid book series completely. I decided to change scenario and picked up Knight’s Ransom. I am enjoying it so far – almost finished – but it’s not making me go crazy either… what’s wrong with me?!

What are you reading this week? I can’t wait to read your WWW Wednesday posts!

  1. Hey Marta, loved reading about the recent books you’ve read! Honestly, I’m still hesitant to pick up Sky Beyond The Storm because despite loving the series overall, slowly it felt like each following book never quite lived up to the first one. Sorry to hear it disappointed you, wishing you more success on your future reads! 💕
