Hello Fellow Readers,

I hope you are keeping safe and warm. We have only two books coming out this week but they are both quite intriguing reads:

Becoming Human – Amy Michelle Carpenter

Carter doesn’t believe in aliens. And he certainly doesn’t defend his dad’s claims that they exist, even if they aired on national television. But then, the girl he’s falling for starts doing strange things, magical things, things that seem a bit out of this world.

Kokab hungers to be a Perfect in a world where her emotions are her greatest flaw. But when her planet faces extinction, her sympathy makes her the best ambassador to persuade humans to accept her people. Failure means invasion, but success means she will never become a Perfect. Ags dreams of graduating from the Academy and becoming a guardian of Earth.

Obsessed with all things human, she’s eager to spend time on the unique planet. But when she uncovers an impending invasion, she’s willing to lose everything, including herself, to stop it.

This story sounds like my right cup of tea — a story about a guy who doesn’t believe in aliens but slowly falls in love with one! This reminds me of one old TV show which I watched devotedly when I was a teenager – Roswell. This sci-fi novel explores complex relationship about aliens and humans but also the meaning of being human. It’s out on 8 December.

A Universe of Wishes – Dhonielle Clayton

From We Need Diverse Books, the organization behind Flying Lessons & Other Stories, comes a young adult fantasy short story collection featuring some of the best own-voices children’s authors, including New York Times bestselling authors Libba Bray (The Diviners), Victoria Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic), Natalie C. Parker (Seafire), and many more. Edited by Dhonielle Clayton (The Belles).

In the fourth collaboration with We Need Diverse Books, fifteen award-winning and celebrated diverse authors deliver stories about a princess without need of a prince, a monster long misunderstood, memories that vanish with a spell, and voices that refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice. This powerful and inclusive collection contains a universe of wishes for a braver and more beautiful world.

I think this is the year of exploring anthologies of stories. A Universe of Wishes is a collection of young adult fantasy stories with great names such as Natalie C. Parker (Seafire), Zoraida Córdova (Incendiary), V.E. Schwab (I think we all know her), and the project is overseen by the brilliant Dhonielle Clayton (The Belles). This fantastic collection of fantasy stories has been released in collaboration with We Need Diverse Books. It will be out on 8 December.

That’s it for this week.
